Who I am

So…here’s the bit where I tell you all about me! I’m a busy, almost 40 mum of two little girls aged five and three, living in Middlesex, trying to do a bit of the Good Life thing, sort of living in the country, while still being near town for my husband’s work (he’s a lawyer) and my occasional social life (I like trendy cocktail bars).

I’m a journalist and have worked mainly in newspapers. I am really into cooking, trying to lose weight (constant battle), keeping chickens (well, did til a fox got them, but will be getting more soon), and like making jam. I’m trying to write a novel (I’m at the point where I’m trying to work out how to do the racy bits when everyone I know is going to read it) and I want to write a recipe book.

I’m now also working part time for O2, who have asked me to write about my life. Hurrah! They’ve never really done anything with families before and as they are planning to bring out some new, family-focused gizmos they want to have a real mum – me!- help them demo products and find out what other people think about them too.

So I get to share recipes, child-rearing traumas, holiday tips, ideas for rainy days and so on – as long as I also write a bit about some of the gadgets we like and don’t like. That way they can make some gorgeous, non-geeky, hi-tech stuff we’ll all want to use to make our lives better.

Personally, I couldn’t live without the sat nav, Sky Plus or my Nespresso machine (does that count?) mainly because it makes my husband pleasant in the mornings (I’m actually a tea girl). My iPhone is practically the love of my life. In fact, if the battery lasted longer I would have to marry it.

Now…what about you lot? Please let me know what you like and what you don’t like – technologically or otherwise. If you’d like to get properly involved l’ll be inviting guest editors to share their stories of family life or useful technologies – so do email me. You might even get to test drive some new gadgets for me…and keep them afterwards! (Bribery will get you everywhere, so I’ve heard.)

Love from Mum-e
